The
start-up of a new frontier
IAW III
To
most collegians, they immediately recognise the presented
acronym. It is not a prominent PC game at the turn of the
century but it is a distinguishable annual programme that
is held in KMYS. Islamic Aspiration Week III 2001 had created
an evident memoir in this millennium.
I'm not trying to be technical here but I guess I better sum
up the activities that were carried out along the week. The
week was launched with an opening ceremony on the night of
August 20th. Nasyid was the performance for that night. From
August 21st until August 23rd, competitive activities were
listed. Most of them were divided into two categories (male
and female) and each activity was carried out at different
places. The competitions were nasyid, Islamic quiz, tazkirah
(message-conveying activity), hafazan (reciting bits of memorised
Quranic verses), musabaqah (recitation of Quranic verses)
and azan (the calling for prayer). Such activities had brought
out talented individuals to present their skills (and charms,
hehe). On the night of the 23rd, a prime seminar of IAW was
held.
Next on the list is the blood donation drive. This activity
was being organised by 4 couples (4 Chinese guys and 4 Malay
ladies
hmm
) on Friday 24th. They were Charles,
Justin, Chun Huat, Zhe Hui, Munirah, Faisa, Izwazi and Nawal.
A team of medical officers from Hospital Tapah and Hospital
Teluk Intan assisted this programme. There were two sessions:
the first one was from 9 a.m. until 12.30 p.m. and the following
one was from 3 p.m. until 6.45 p.m. It went on smoothly (Ed's
Note: No, my blood did not. I only managed to donate half
a pint.) and I am honoured to say that we managed to break
the previous records: 136 blood donators had turned up on
that day and we hope that this number will increase in the
future. Pump up the power, yeah!!!
Then, on August 26th, a qiyamullail was performed in the musolla
during the night (or rather in the morning because this is
usually done around 1 to 5 a.m. before the time begins for
Subuh prayer). Now, it is time to announce the results. On
the night of August 28th, the closing and prize giving ceremony
was conducted in the Great Hall. Both male and female nasyid
performers won the first prizes. For male and female hafazan
competitions, Farid and Shahida got the top titles. Ihab was
nominated the champion for musabaqah while Azlan was entitled
the best azan performer. Sapphire beat the other three houses
in the quiz category. For tazkirah, Irfan and Aisyah took
the top places for male and female categories respectively.
All in all, the event was great! More and more competitions
were created and more students were given the chance to participate.
I believe that in the future, this event will become more
exciting and it is hoped that students won't hesitate to contribute
in the coming activities. That's all for now from me, the
reporter of IAW 2001. Signing off.

So many blessings to count,
But sorrow triumphs once more,
Tears flow when no one knows,
Muffled sobs no one notices,
But relief nowhere in sight.
Sweet,
cheerful on the surface,
Just beneath
empty.
Best
friends left behind,
Heart choked with loneliness,
Clinging; a burden
To the one pillar of support.
Words
of advice uttered,
Comforting
for the moment.
I
used to be somebody,
Everyone knew, everyone turn to,
Now just one in the shadows,
My own fault, true.
Is
this how life will be?
Will time bring more change?
Change for the better?
But
true friendship is formed slowly,
Drop by drop,
'Til the heart runs over.
Another Droplet
